Mèèèmbers,

In a month's time, we will embark on an epic journey to Pilsen. Pilsen is the fourth largest city in the Czech Republic. It was founded by king Wenceslas II in 1295. Its ancient town center has been declared a historical landmark. The rich architectural gems here include the cathedral of St. Bartholomew, the Renaissance Town Hall, the Baroque reconstruction of the Archdeacon’s house and Franciscan Monastery, and the recently re-opened Great Synagogue.

More importantly, the city is known worldwide for Pilsner beer. The world’s first blond lager, the original Pilsner Urquell, was created there on 5 October 1842 and is still produced there today. Its popularity meant that it was much copied. More than two-thirds of the beer produced in the world today is blond lager, sometimes labeled "pils", "pilsner" or "pilsener". Modern Pilsen is the legendary mecca of Czech pubs and clubs. Even people from Prague come to Pilsen to party on Friday and Saturday nights!

Clearly, Pilsen is the perfect destination for a party weekend abroad. Come visit the Pilsner Urquell brewery, which includes a tasting of unfiltered Pilsner Urquell beer in the historical cellars. Come play a game of flunkyball in the beautiful Mestský Park. Pour your own beer and play drinking games at The Pub. And so on and so forth. It will be the trip of a lifetime!
